Long Beach Long Island Maternity Photography

It was an honor doing this Long Beach Long Island Maternity Photography session.  This session was planned right before the start of the summer and we had a beautiful day.  We first started the photo session by taking a few in studio portraits against a regular white background.  I always like to add some drama especially on pregnant bellies so I did a few photos with some dramatic lighting.  Afterwards we drove down to Long Beach just in time to catch the sunset.  We first did some photos on the boardwalk and then walked to the sand to get some shots with the sunset in the background.  I used both the natural golden hour light for some of the shots and some flash for some dramatic photos.  I love both styles and I always try to shoot both ways to give the client two different looks to choose from.  It is always exciting to see their reactions when they see the photos using the flash as it always illicitates a huge WOW from them.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.  Let me know which style you like better.  Pastel skies or rich and dramatic skies.  Or both.

I was this mommy’s Long Island Maternity Photographer last year when she was expecting her first child.  She contacted me a few months ago and told me that she was pregnant again with her second and wanted to have this maternity session taken at a beach in Long Island.  But wait….here is the best part.  Since she was expecting her second baby sometime around the same month as she delivered her first baby last year, she wanted to schedule the maternity shoot on the same date as she did last year!  She explained that she wanted to be able to have the photos side by side.  I told her that this was a great idea.  The only thing that we had to hope for was of course good weather.

On the day of her shoot, we met at Robert Moses State Park.  I absolutely love that beach.  It has abeautiful board walk that leads to the lighthouse and to either the bay or the beach.  I always have a tough time deciding between the bay or the beach.  Since the sun falls on the north side, the sunset is directly over the water on the bay side.  Since the beach side is on the south,  you don’t see the sun actually setting on that side, however you still get some of the remnants of the colored sky over there.    After taking some photos on the boardwalk path, we decided to go to the beach side.  I took some photos of the sun setting and then took some photos near the water.  Below are some of my favorites from the session.

I am a huge fan of silhouettes.  I just love these with the sun setting in the background.  This also allows me to get that warm orange and red in the sky.

The sky was quickly turning colors. It started as orange but then turned into  beautiful shades of pink and purple.

Back to the water and you can see the pink pastel undertones from the sky.  We clearly had a stunning sunset that evening and I am so glad that Gina got so lucky for this.

New York Glamour/Outdoor Portraits

NEW YORK GLAMOUR /OUTDOOR PORTRAITS

New York Glamour goes to the park……chasing cherry blossoms!  Yes…..spring is finally here after  a long, nasty and ruthless winter in NYC.  I don’t know about you but there is only so much white powder and cold one can deal with.  I photographed this lovely lady for her new headshots (her session will be posted in another upcoming post…..:o)) After we completed her headshots for her new website, I dragged her to this location to get some shots of her with these cherry blossoms.  I happened to stumble upon them the day before at a shoot and just had to take advantage since cherry blossoms are not in season for too long……usually they last up to about 2 weeks.  So if you love them as much as I do and want photos with them you will have to wait until next year since they are all gone now.  They usually bloom in late April, sometimes earlier, sometimes later.  With some flexibility and close attention you might be able to seize the moment.  If you like these flowers then I  recommend that you book your session in March for April and then we will just have to be a little flexible with a date as we wait patiently for them to bloom.  :o)

But for now here are a few  beautiful portraits for you to enjoy until next spring!  :o)

Kelly got in touch with me about a month ago to book a maternity session in her seventh month of pregnancy.  It is recommended that you book your maternity photography shoot at 7 or 8 months into your pregnancy in order to be able to showcase that beautiful baby bump.  When I arrived at her home, we discussed the details that she wanted to include in her shoot as well as location options in her home.  Since I usually try to keep things as simple as possible when I am on location, I will try to utilize as much natural light as I possibly can if it is available.  It was a bit overcast on the day of her shoot and her home did not have much natural light but it was adequate enough lighting for some of the shots.  I did have to use some flash on some of them but I used it as subtly as I could in order to maintain a natural looking feel.

You will have to agree that she is simply a beautiful mommy to be.    I loved the beautiful flower headpiece it made her look so innocent.

I love when husbands are involved in the shoot.   I absolutely loved the contrast of his tattooed arms against her white maternity gown here.

It is simply amazing what a small window and some sheer curtains can do.  She is just glowing in these photos.
