Long Island Dancer Headshots

Long Island Dancer Headshots

Spring is finally here and it’s time to wear those pretty bright colors again.  They also look great and make a great choice for what to wear for your headshot session as you can see from the photos below.  Jackie, a professional dancer from Long Island was in need of new Long Island Dancer Headshots.  She contacted me and I gave her some recommendations on colors to bring to her photo session.  One of the colors I always like to suggest to my clients is royal blue.  It always looks great in photos!  Another great color choice is green.  In this case the green also  worked since Jackie is a dancer for the New York Jets, so it definitely worked  for the headshots.  I love these cute tops and I absolutely love these colors.  We ended up using all three blouses that she brought because  they were just fun.  :o)  Of course after the long miserable winter that we had here in New York it is refreshing to see people coming in with more cheerful choices of colors.

Kelly got in touch with me about a month ago to book a maternity session in her seventh month of pregnancy.  It is recommended that you book your maternity photography shoot at 7 or 8 months into your pregnancy in order to be able to showcase that beautiful baby bump.  When I arrived at her home, we discussed the details that she wanted to include in her shoot as well as location options in her home.  Since I usually try to keep things as simple as possible when I am on location, I will try to utilize as much natural light as I possibly can if it is available.  It was a bit overcast on the day of her shoot and her home did not have much natural light but it was adequate enough lighting for some of the shots.  I did have to use some flash on some of them but I used it as subtly as I could in order to maintain a natural looking feel.

You will have to agree that she is simply a beautiful mommy to be.    I loved the beautiful flower headpiece it made her look so innocent.

I love when husbands are involved in the shoot.   I absolutely loved the contrast of his tattooed arms against her white maternity gown here.

It is simply amazing what a small window and some sheer curtains can do.  She is just glowing in these photos.

Long Island Headshots/Long Island Actor Headshots/Natural Light

I recently had a chance to work with this beautiful young actor on her headshots.  As usual, I  strictly used natural light on this session.  It was a sunny day and the lighting was there so there was no need for me to set up strobes or continuous lighting when I had such beautiful available light in my studio.  I always prefer using natural lighting when it is available because it is the most flattering and the best representation of yourself when you step into an audition room.  Actor headshots should not be highly glamourous.  You are an actor not a model.  Your headshot needs to convey who you are  so that casting directors know what you really look like in person.  Therefore you will want photos that are perfectly lit with minimal shadows and distractions, especially if you are a female.  That is why you must make sure that your photographer understands lighting and how it works. Long Island Child Photographer/Flushing Photo Session

Even though I know that it is winter there are so many great children’s photo sessions that I have not had a chance to  write about.  Take this one for example.  I am not sure how I even missed featuring this one.   It was such a fun session and I absolutely loved this little girl’s orange coat.  When I saw it I was so excited.  It is so perfect for a Long Island and New York City fall photo session!   The color went absolutely perfect with the environment and the fall foliage at Flushing’s Kissena Park.   We were also fortunate that it was fairly mild and not that cold.   It’s always a good idea to try to get fall photo sessions taken in October or early November since it starts to get a lot  colder in the later part of November.  I find that most kids are just not as comfortable being outdoors in the cold.  Of course every now and then you get a few exceptions.  :o)  I am sharing some of my favorite photos from this fabulous session.  Don’t you just love these photos?  I would love to hear what you think.
