Long Island Actor Headshots

Long Island Actor Headshots

If you are a Long Island actor, having a great headshot  is a must since it is your calling card to get work.  I love shooting headshots.  I enjoy directing and coaching my subjects and working with them to create the best images possible.  I enjoy meeting people and hearing about how they got into acting and I enjoy the challenge of getting the “look”.  Nailing a great headshot is hard work.  It certainly is not easy and can require many clicks of the shutter before we get the right look.  Here are some recent headshots that I took for an aspiring young  Long Island, NY actor.  Headshots are NOT just for actors anymore.  With social media and on-line presence playing such a huge factor in our lives, everyone needs a good headshot for their on-line and social media profiles.  Isn’t it time that you book your shoot today?

Long Island Headshots/In-Studio or Outdoors

Long Island Headshots/In Studio or Outdoors

June was a busy month filled with events and headshot sessions.  Summer is finally here and after the winter that we had  this year we all couldn’t be any happier.  Headshot sessions have picked up because the longer days and nice weather have allowed for more opportunities to photograph outdoors for those who prefer to do so.  I often get asked where I do my headshot sessions, if I do them in studio, on location, or both.  The answer simply is all of the above.  I will primarily use natural light whenever possible or when it is available.  I find that it is the most flattering for everyone, especially women.  If done in studio, I will always make use of natural light and generally use either a white, gray or black backdrop for a clean, conventional look.  If lighting conditions are poor then I will need to introduce a continuous light  source or add either studio flash or a bounced fill flash.  If done outdoors, I will scout out a few areas that allow for clean simple backgrounds with the best lighting conditions.  Here are some recent headshots that i did in studio and then outdoors.  All of these images were shot using natural available light only.

As you may already know by now, I love taking headshots for actors, dancers and musicians.  There is so much incredible talent out there and it is always great to be able to meet such talented people and to work with them on their headshots.  Some of the actors that I meet are fairly new to the business while others are veterans that are simply looking to update their headshots.  If you are an actor, it is always a good idea to get updated headshots every two years, especially if your appearance has changed, i.e., you have a new hairstyle, changed the color of your hair, you got braces, you grew a beard, or any other change in facial appearance.  Your headshot should look like you normally look like every day of the  year.  When  you are called in to an audition, casting directors would like you to look like the headshot  you submitted.  Hence it is important that you do not appear over glammed up for your headshot photo session.  Although hair and make-up is important for your photo shoot, and you may decide to get  your hair and/or make-up done by a professional, you will still want to be able to easily replicate the look of  your headshot on the day of your audition.  So if you normally wear straight hair for your auditions, you will want to keep your hair straight for your headshot session.   So, do you need to hire a hair and/or make-up artist?   I think it is always a good idea especially for women, especially when it comes to make-up.  I know that I myself,  always find that when somebody else does my hair and make-up it always comes out a bit more “polished”.    I normally wear my hair straight and I love to treat myself to a professional blowing out my hair or flattening it out.  And even though i know how to put make-up on, I always prefer a professional to do it especially for pictures.     Here are some photos from a recent actor’s headshot session.  This young lady contacted me a couple of weeks ago for a headshot session.  She is an aspiring young actress who is really excited about pursuing her dream of being an actress.  Since she told me that she normally does not wear any make-up, we kept her make-up looking fairly natural so that she still looks like herself when she goes for auditions.

I love to photograph dancers, musicians and actors.  Perhaps it’s that creative and artistic bond that we share in the creative arts.  Or maybe it is just their passion and aspiration for what they do or what they want to do.   Marissa recently contacted me for headshots.  She had an upcoming dance tryout and audition and needed a good headshot and full-body shot.  Here are some of her and my favorite images from her session.

Although it may be cold out right now I am looking forward to warmer days so that I can shoot  outdoor sessions again.  But for now shooting will have to remain indoors.  Here are some headshots taken indoors in New York.  I often get asked where I offer my headshot sessions.  I generally offer my services within the 5 boroughs including Queens and Manhattan, in addition to Nassau County and Suffolk County, Long Island.  We can shoot indoors or outdoors, or both.  It totally depends on your preference and what kind of look you are looking for.  Weather is definitely a factor when scheduling an outdoor session and these sessions are typically scheduled for the late afternoon/early evening hours in order to take advantage of the best lighting.
