New York Glamour/Outdoor Portraits

NEW YORK GLAMOUR /OUTDOOR PORTRAITS

New York Glamour goes to the park……chasing cherry blossoms!  Yes…..spring is finally here after  a long, nasty and ruthless winter in NYC.  I don’t know about you but there is only so much white powder and cold one can deal with.  I photographed this lovely lady for her new headshots (her session will be posted in another upcoming post…..:o)) After we completed her headshots for her new website, I dragged her to this location to get some shots of her with these cherry blossoms.  I happened to stumble upon them the day before at a shoot and just had to take advantage since cherry blossoms are not in season for too long……usually they last up to about 2 weeks.  So if you love them as much as I do and want photos with them you will have to wait until next year since they are all gone now.  They usually bloom in late April, sometimes earlier, sometimes later.  With some flexibility and close attention you might be able to seize the moment.  If you like these flowers then I  recommend that you book your session in March for April and then we will just have to be a little flexible with a date as we wait patiently for them to bloom.  :o)

But for now here are a few  beautiful portraits for you to enjoy until next spring!  :o)

Long Island Dancer Headshots

Long Island Dancer Headshots

Spring is finally here and it’s time to wear those pretty bright colors again.  They also look great and make a great choice for what to wear for your headshot session as you can see from the photos below.  Jackie, a professional dancer from Long Island was in need of new Long Island Dancer Headshots.  She contacted me and I gave her some recommendations on colors to bring to her photo session.  One of the colors I always like to suggest to my clients is royal blue.  It always looks great in photos!  Another great color choice is green.  In this case the green also  worked since Jackie is a dancer for the New York Jets, so it definitely worked  for the headshots.  I love these cute tops and I absolutely love these colors.  We ended up using all three blouses that she brought because  they were just fun.  :o)  Of course after the long miserable winter that we had here in New York it is refreshing to see people coming in with more cheerful choices of colors.

I recently had a chance to work with this beautiful young actor on her headshots.  As usual, I  strictly used natural light on this session.  It was a sunny day and the lighting was there so there was no need for me to set up strobes or continuous lighting when I had such beautiful available light in my studio.  I always prefer using natural lighting when it is available because it is the most flattering and the best representation of yourself when you step into an audition room.  Actor headshots should not be highly glamourous.  You are an actor not a model.  Your headshot needs to convey who you are  so that casting directors know what you really look like in person.  Therefore you will want photos that are perfectly lit with minimal shadows and distractions, especially if you are a female.  That is why you must make sure that your photographer understands lighting and how it works. NYC Yoga Photography/Yoga in the Park

Yoga photography taken outdoors, particularly in a setting such as a park brings it all together in such a beautiful way that is not possible from inside the walls of a studio.  Outdoor locations just provide for a better impression than a studio will.  There are many locations where a yogi can practice their yoga and capture stunning images.  Neighborhood parks, beaches, the wilderness, gardens, lakes, mountains and even rooftops and urban settings are just some locations that provide for exquisite backdrops, scenery, landscapes, geometry and composition to help create compelling yoga photos.   I love the outdoors and I love photographing people so I am always looking for opportunities to photograph people doing fun and interesting things outdoors.  I got this opportunity with a recent client friend of mine.  She is a nutritionist and was looking for some new environmental portraits and headshots for her new website.  She knew that she wanted to do something outdoors that incorporated nature and after tossing ideas around for her session we decided to incorporate some yoga photos into her session.  You can read more about her headshot/e-portrait session here.

Yoga photography shoots are great for teachers who need marketing material for their websites and flyers, as well as for yogis who are looking to capture some cool shots of themselves for their social media accounts and/or for large format art for their home.  Not an advanced yogi that can put both feet behind your head or hold a handstand?  No problem.  You need not be a contortionist to get great photos.  Sure, photos of crazy flexibility poses are cool to see, but photos of the most basic poses are just as beautiful.  Poses such as Warrior A or Warrior B or peaceful poses such as tree pose are all that you need to do.  When these basic poses are placed in beautiful settings and geometrically aligned,  the emphasis is not on the difficulty of the pose but on the overall composition and scenery of the photo.

From small business owners to corporate executives, singles to stay-at-home mom’s, more and more clients are requesting a non-traditional headshot session sometimes referred to as the “E- portrait session” or “environmental portrait session”.  What is an E-portrait session?  It is a variety of individual portraits and/or non-traditional headshots for you to use, primarily online either for your business or personal websites, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter and sometimes online dating sites.  In today’s digital world, it just makes sense to have professional, clean, classy photos that represent who you are.

Recently, I did this type of shoot for Diana.  Diana is a registered dietician/nutritionist wellness coach and yoga instructor in NYC working with people to help them live more healthier lifestyles.  She currently has her own facebook page which has plenty of nutrition wellness ideas and tips on how to stay healthy but is looking to create her own website soon.

She contacted me because she was looking for a variety of great photos: professional shots for her website,  Facebook and Linkedin pages and a few environment specific shots.  In our consultation we tossed around a few ideas until Diana decided that she wanted to  capture some casual  headshots at one of her favorite coffee shops in Astoria, NY and then some at Astoria Park in Queens, NY.    Knowing that Diana loved doing Yoga and was an instructor, I suggested that she bring a change of outfit so that we could capture some yoga poses.

If you are interested in this type of shoot and would like some non-traditional headshots for your business, website, online dating or social media web sites, just contact me!  I would love to hear from you! info@irenebellaphotography.com

I service NYC, Long Island and some parts of New York and New Jersey.  We can either meet at agreed outdoor/indoor location such as a park, library, museum, your office, etc.
