NYC Yoga Photography/Yoga in the Park
Yoga photography taken outdoors, particularly in a setting such as a park brings it all together in such a beautiful way that is not possible from inside the walls of a studio. Outdoor locations just provide for a better impression than a studio will. There are many locations where a yogi can practice their yoga and capture stunning images. Neighborhood parks, beaches, the wilderness, gardens, lakes, mountains and even rooftops and urban settings are just some locations that provide for exquisite backdrops, scenery, landscapes, geometry and composition to help create compelling yoga photos. I love the outdoors and I love photographing people so I am always looking for opportunities to photograph people doing fun and interesting things outdoors. I got this opportunity with a recent client friend of mine. She is a nutritionist and was looking for some new environmental portraits and headshots for her new website. She knew that she wanted to do something outdoors that incorporated nature and after tossing ideas around for her session we decided to incorporate some yoga photos into her session. You can read more about her headshot/e-portrait session here.
Yoga photography shoots are great for teachers who need marketing material for their websites and flyers, as well as for yogis who are looking to capture some cool shots of themselves for their social media accounts and/or for large format art for their home. Not an advanced yogi that can put both feet behind your head or hold a handstand? No problem. You need not be a contortionist to get great photos. Sure, photos of crazy flexibility poses are cool to see, but photos of the most basic poses are just as beautiful. Poses such as Warrior A or Warrior B or peaceful poses such as tree pose are all that you need to do. When these basic poses are placed in beautiful settings and geometrically aligned, the emphasis is not on the difficulty of the pose but on the overall composition and scenery of the photo.
